Marvellous Motorcycle Live
The BikeSure 2019 Motorcycle Live event at the NEC is the Mecca for all bikers and manufacturers. A fabulous occasion to showcase your brands range of models to a massive captivated audience.
A good example above, of the type of future machine manufacturers are showcasing with their visions for electric motorcycles, the BMW concept.
I attended on Media Monday getting into the event an hour before the public. For a photographer, this is a blessing as you have clear access to all the machines and don’t have to jostle to get a great shot. An hour later when the doors opened to the waiting crowd it becomes a lot harder to get a clear photo without a leg or arm or head is in the frame.
This shows the popularity of the event and numbers have been increasing year upon year, and from what I heard from Press Reps on the stands there have been many younger attendees. The average age of motorcycle riders has increased to 53 which for manufacturers is a major worry. To continue to support building and selling smaller cc motorcycles the brands need people who want to buy them, and generally, these will be younger people who are entering motorcycling. The older age group are generally established riders who don’t change their bikes that often and are brand loyal.
This must be why I saw so many new 125 bikes from nearly all manufacturers and the choices for a learner rider are vast. A great time to be a teenager getting into biking.
After the new rider focus comes the returning to motorcycling group. These are people aged from 35 up who rode motorcycles as a teenager then got their driving licence and took up using the car, or gave up motorcycling when they got married.
For the returning riders who want to relive their youth again manufacturers have created a large choice of middleweight bikes, 500-750 cc. These are also aimed at the post learner rider who are stepping up from A1 and A2 bikes.
The show provided me with the chance to.catch up with friends from the motorcycling world and PRs of all the brands. Get the heads up one what is happening and a serious amount of information on all the new bikes for 2020.
I was also eagerly filling my diary for next year with dates for loans of the new models, so watch this space for the reviews. One I am really looking forward to is the Indian FTR Rally.
Another bike for 2020 reviewing, will be the Zero S a bike aimed at A1 licence holders, with awesome performance for the size and superb range. It is packed with technology to put power back into the battery through braking and releasing of the throttle.
If you can, try and get up to Birmingham NEC as tickets are still available on door. I will be trying to get back up for the final day on Sunday.
