Beauty of the Bonneville
The Iconic Bonneville name is synonymous with motorcycling and Triumph. A name from the past but very much relevant now, with the T120 model from Triumph keeping the Bonneville name and style from the 1950s in a totally modern package. I am riding one for a couple of weeks and loving it.
Triumph delivered me the special edition Ace Cafe model, a tribute to the glory days of cafe racing and the famous London meeting place.
Throughout the history of motorcycles, riders have wanted to go faster. Always tinkering with the machines they owned to find ways of gaining more speed from the basic bike. In the 1950s this need for speed continued and the trend was to strip down the British bikes available. Riders then started to compete against each other in their regular rides from London down to the coasts where they would meet at a cafe. The unofficial racing took off so quickly becoming Cafe Racing and spawning specific models from the manufacturers. Ace Cafe in London was one of the original gathering places where bikers would congregate before racing to a cafe at a coastal resort such as Brighton.
Triumph wanted to dedicate a bike to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Bonneville model and its credentials as a cafe racer. They chose the famous Ace Cafe due to its historic connections with Cafe Racing. I will be writing a full review of the Bonneville T120 for one of the publications I write for, so watch my social media for the link to this. Cheers Jez
