Triumph Trident 660 Test Ride.
My road test of Triumph’s new lightweight category Roadster, the Trident 660, and what a blast. As quick as you would ever want, with exceptional handling, comfort and riding position.
It is light, meaning it can be moved around easily and quickly, allowing you to change direction at will. It holds its path supremely well, giving confidence through the tightest of bends when taken at speed.
Performance is fantastic, with the 660 engine providing plenty of power through all gears. I was impressed with the bike’s ability to sit at 35 mph in 6th gear then accelerate rapidly to 70 mph without the need to downshift. The spacing between each gear seems short as I found I was changing quickly at low speeds to stop the bike from revving hard. That said, I quickly adjusted to get the best from the bike.
The riding position is good, and despite being a Naked bike, I was not buffeted by wind at higher speeds. My body was upright with no pressure on my wrists or knees. The seat looks thin yet proves comfortable over my first hour-long ride. Longer rides will come, and this may change my view. ( I have been on longer rides since the first ride, the seat and riding position remain comfortable).
Initial thoughts are Triumph has a real pedigree machine with the Trident 660. The development put into this lightweight sector model has paid off, and Triumph will sell loads of these.
After a week of riding the 66o I can confirm the above statement. A gorgeous bike which delivers in all aspects of riding. All you could ask for from a motorbike, giving you the experiences bikers crave.
The Trident will make an ideal track day bike that will allow you to push the performance and handling envelope fully. Riding on UK roads does not allow one to explore the bike’s potential , but it still delivers plenty of fun. It can be flicked around easily, providing superb cornering at high speeds while giving the rider total confidence.
The Trident 660 excited me on every ride I took during my week with her. It would be a bike I would buy and has got me considering swapping my BMW for one.
