QJMotor SRK 921 RR Review

.

The QJMotor SRK 921 RR is a stunning motorcycle that looks like it comes from an Italian brand, but it is actually from China. It was developed from what was to be a collaboration between QJ Motors and MV Agusta. The union did not happen, but gorgeous models are being born.

Looking like a piece of art from MV Agusta, the QJMotor's SRK 921 RR is a sublime design. It also sounds like an Italian thoroughbred, but can the Chinese manufacturer get the bike to handle as well as it looks?

The engine produces a usable 120bhp, delivering practical performance rather than the circuit-centric performance of a bike with 200+. The QJMotor SRK 921 RR exhibits an approachable demeanour at low speeds, allowing riders to navigate with ease, though riders should be prepared for its notably heavy clutch action. Like many sport-oriented motorcycles, it thrives on open roads, where it can truly revel in the thrill of the ride rather than simply meandering through urban environments. During our test ride, we recorded an impressive average fuel efficiency of around 41 miles per gallon, translating to a theoretical range of approximately 144 miles with its 16-litre fuel tank.

The model offers three distinct riding modes: 'Normal,' 'Rain,' and 'Sport.' While the first two modes provide a more relaxed and subdued riding experience—ideal for everyday commutes—the 'Sport' mode stands out with its linear power delivery, responsiveness, and a sense of immediacy that enhances the riding thrill. The gear shifts are generally light and precise, though they can occasionally feel a bit clunky at lower speeds. The integrated up/down quickshifter performs seamlessly, making gear transitions effortless.

The QJMotor SRK 921 RR is equipped with sophisticated lean-sensitive traction control and ABS, which remained untroubled throughout testing, providing a reassuring layer of safety without intruding on the exhilaration of the ride.

Handling.

I took the QJMotor's SRK 921 RR on dual carriageways, motorways, and through towns. The bike demonstrated remarkable stability, allowing it to glide smoothly from point A to point B. When accelerating hard over bumps, the handlebars remained steady, and the bike felt solid at lean angles.

The sporty tyres provided ample grip and confidence. The ride is on the firmer side, similar to many MV models, due to their stiff chassis, strong suspension springs, and large 50mm diameter forks. The slight firmness is an acceptable trade-off for a race replica motorcycle when you're pushing hard.

The combination of stable handling, electronic safety features, and powerful yet easy-to-manage performance creates an excellent recipe for enjoying rides with friends, regardless of how much more expensive their bikes may be.

The QJMotor SRK 921 RR is a heavy machine, a characteristic largely attributed to its substantial Euro 5+ collector box, which is not only oversized but also optimised for performance. Historically, MV Agustas have been known for their robust steel frames, which never made them the featherweights of the motorcycle world. The QJMotor SRK 921 RR tipped the scales at a hefty 230.6 kg, fully fueled. The weight somewhat dampens the exhilaration typically associated with a sport-oriented motorcycle. One would expect a bike with such sporty ambitions to offer nimble acceleration and agile handling, but the SRK 921 RR's considerable weight inevitably compromises its performance, diminishing some of the thrill you'd expect from a machine designed for spirited riding.

As you engage the brakes, the noticeable weight becomes apparent. The Brembo braking system, while reliable, doesn't quite bring you to a rapid halt as quickly as one might desire. Nevertheless, with a firm grip on the levers, the brakes capably scrub off speed without any intrusive ABS interventions. The rear disc, measuring a generous 260mm, is quite substantial for a sports bike and is equipped with a twin-piston Brembo caliper. However, it falls short of delivering the power one would expect, making it less effective in urgent braking situations.

Furthermore, the QJMotor's steering response is somewhat delayed, contributing to a nostalgic feel that harkens back to the sports bikes of the 1990s. It doesn't dart into corners at the slightest touch; instead, it requires a more deliberate input from the rider. On the upside, this slower steering response lends the bike a remarkable stability, which is invaluable for instilling confidence when navigating fast, uneven twisties.

The ergonomics of the SRK 921 RR exude a razor-sharp focus typical of MV Agusta's supersport lineage. Unlike the more contemporary middleweight sports bikes that feature wider, higher clip-ons positioned above their top yokes, the SRK 921 RR opts for a distinctly aggressive setup with its clip-ons positioned low and narrow. This design choice not only emphasises the bike's performance-oriented nature but also provides easy accessibility, allowing riders to comfortably lean against the tank with their left arm, reminiscent of old-school riding techniques. This clever positioning offers a welcome break for the left wrist during extended rides.

Adding to the riding convenience, the SRK 921 RR is equipped with adjustable cruise control. The feature allows riders to relieve the strain on their throttle hand during long journeys, ensuring a more comfortable experience while also aiding in speed regulation.

The engine, a product of a strategic collaboration with MV Agusta, is a remarkable piece of engineering. The QJMotor features a 921cc inline-four engine, essentially a refined version of the F4 1000 engine that powered the 2011 Brutale 920, albeit with reduced displacement. It retains the sophisticated Magneti Marelli fuel injection system, updated with a contemporary ride-by-wire throttle and an eco-conscious Euro 5+ exhaust standard.

The powertrain excels in midrange performance, delivering a thrilling, strong pull that is especially noticeable in real-world riding, making for an exhilarating experience on the road.

The technology featured in this motorcycle is impressive, highlighted by a multifunctional five-inch colour dashboard that provides a wealth of information and connectivity options. Riders can choose from three distinct riding modes—Rain, Normal, and Sport—allowing for an adaptable experience that caters to varying weather conditions and personal preferences. The bike is enhanced with advanced features such as launch control, tyre pressure monitors, and a front-facing camera for added safety and convenience.

Equipped with a sophisticated ride-by-wire system and an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), the SRK 921 RR offers modern amenities such as cruise control and a seamless up/down quickshifter that enhance the riding experience. Additionally, cornering traction control and anti-lock braking system (ABS) further bolster its performance and safety on diverse terrains.

The five-inch colour dash not only displays crucial information, such as the gear position indicator, but also offers Bluetooth connectivity for seamless integration with devices. However, while the graphics might appeal to a more gaming-oriented aesthetic, they can come off as somewhat cluttered, making it difficult for some riders to read the small digits displayed on the screen. Overall, the SRK 921 RR combines cutting-edge technology with an engaging design, creating an exciting ride for enthusiasts.

The front fairing of the QJMotor showcases a striking design, featuring LED headlights and daytime running lights that evoke the iconic styling of the original Ducati Panigale. The sleek lines and aggressive stance not only enhance its visual appeal but also contribute to its aerodynamic performance. Additionally, the wings integrated into the bodywork are designed to generate downforce at high speeds on the track, though their effect is less pronounced in everyday riding, where they primarily serve an aesthetic purpose, enhancing the motorcycle's sporty character.

Summing up.

The QJMotor SRK 921 RR stands out impressively in numerous aspects, captivating onlookers with its striking design. At first glance, it may be mistaken for an MV Agusta, embodying similar aesthetics and performance, yet it comes at a significantly more accessible price point. This motorcycle excels particularly on winding country roads, where its agility allows riders to navigate twists and turns with effortless grace.

With a robust midrange torque, the SRK 921 RR delivers just the right amount of exhilarating power, leaving a lasting impression. One of its most compelling features is undoubtedly the price tag—£8999. For this investment, you receive a meticulously crafted, high-performance machine that delivers a thrilling, raw sound. It boasts exceptional chassis components, an array of advanced electronic features, and a stylish design reminiscent of higher-end models.

As a Chinese motorcycle, the QJMotor SRK 921 RR bears a striking resemblance to Italian superbikes, holding its own in both performance and handling. It promises an abundance of thrills and enjoyment, all for a truly attractive price of £9000, making it a standout choice for enthusiasts seeking both beauty and functionality in one package.
