Yamaha Tracer 9 GT+ provides plenty of pluses.
Yamaha Tracer 9 GT+ provides plenty of pluses.
Yamaha has created the Tracer 9 GT+ as a full-on tourer, but riding it shows it still keeps its sporting character. The looks, handling and power are aggressive, but you will always provide the rider with confidence. Road Tests and Reviews had a cracking time with the machine racking up plenty of miles during the heatwave of the Wimbledon weeks.
The Yamaha Tracer 9 GT+'s chassis has been adjusted to accommodate extra luggage and load, but maintains agile handling and balance. Yamaha has also placed lighter spin-forged wheels and altered the Bridgestone T32 tyres on the Tracer 9 GT+ so you can push the bike fast into twisties with assurance.
Yamaha's Tracer 9 GT+ is a touring machine comfortable for long stints in the saddle. It is also aided by a lovely handlebar position, meaning the rider sits upright and isn’t stretching forward. The screen is adjustable and does a sweet job of diverting the wind.
You need a superb engine for a grand tourer, and the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT+ has the CP3 890cc, which allows for motorway munching speeds and blasting B roads and mountain passes.
The engine is connected to the Y-AMT gearbox, which offers smooth automatic changes, especially welcome at slow urban speeds. The gearbox also adjusts equally capably to full-on aggressive riding. In manual mode, press one button to engage the system, and then use the Up and Down buttons on the left of the bar to control the gear shifts.
The Yamaha Tracer 9 GT+ is the company’s premium sports tourer. It costs £17,004, which is a lot of money and more than some competitors.
Honda has their DT1100 DCT at £14299, Suzuki has the GSX-S1000GX at £14799, and going green, the Kawasaki Versys 1100 SE Tourer is £16399.
Yamaha has packed the Tracer 9GT+ with technology and equipment to inform, aid, and enhance your riding experience. You get a 7” display through which you get a clear vision of what the bike is doing, and to enter settings.
Connected to the IMU, a full suite of riding modes and aids. An impressive Matrix LED lighting system is fitted, as is Adaptive cruise control, and unified brakes.
The Matrix uses the IMU and a forward-facing camera in the nose to detect traffic, lighting, and surroundings. It allows the LEDs in the lower section of the light to turn on and off depending on what you're following, what’s coming, and if you’re leaning.
The lighting is impressive on low beam, but the Yamaha Tracer 9GT+ offers a broad amount of illumination on high beam. The automatic system can also be switched off. The switches and the inside of the panniers are also backlit.
A glorious Grand Tourer, the Yamaha Tracer 9GT+ epitomises machines designed to tackle hundreds of miles in a day while keeping the rider fresh and comfortable.
The bike can carry two people and luggage at high cruising speeds, yet delivers sportier performance and handling for a more thrilling ride. It is laden with technology, the major one being Y-AMT.
You also get KYB semi-active suspension, radar cruise control, Matrix lighting, and more. It can compete with all its rivals and has to be a consideration if you are looking for a fun, lively, capable Tourer.
