Aprilia Tuono 660

The Aprilia Tuono 660 Offers Race Track Performance On The Road.

APRILIA TUONO 660

As powerful as thunder, as light as a cloud.

 The legendary Tuona V4 1100 meets the advanced technology of the RS 660 to create the TUONO 660, a motorbike destined to shake up the way you look at the world.

The Aprilia Tuono 660 is a beautiful looking motorcycle, but it has much more than its looks. I loved the lightness of the bike ( KERB WEIGHT OF JUST 183 KG); you can flick it at will and have total confidence. In a compact machine, packing a real punch for a Middleweight and providing you with Racetrack handling.

This 660 offers you the ability to ride it on an A2 licence when it is restricted in power to 35Kw—making it an excellent option for bikers wanting to move to a bigger capacity bike. Once they obtain their A1 licence, they can get a dealer to derestrict their motorcycle, allowing them the full 95 HP. No need for you to go out and buy a larger bike.

The Tuono 660 is descended from the Tuono V4 and has inherited all the popular qualities with the public and critics. Aprilia spotted the advantages of making a more minimalist version with a raised ride, ideal as a daily rider, on your own or two-up. The riding position with a wide handlebar guarantees better agility and riding comfort. The saddle is comfortably padded and tapered on the sides to favour resting the feet on the ground, facilitating manoeuvres when stopped. A generous portion is for the pillion on the tail fairing (equipped with grab handles).

The fuel tank has a capacity of 15 litres with a compact design that gives the rider a feeling of being seamlessly fitted on the vehicle. Average riding gives you around 42 mpg, so the range is about 130 miles or two hours of continuous riding.

You get an extensive ran test of safety and riding aids on the Aprilia Tuono 660:

  • ATC: Aprilia Traction Control, adjustable traction control characterised by operating logic supporting sporty riding.

  • AWC: Aprilia Wheelie Control, the adjustable wheelie control system.

  • ACC: Aprilia Cruise Control, to maintain the set speed without touching the throttle control.

  • AEB: Aprilia Engine Brake, the adjustable system to control engine braking when closing the throttle.

  • AEM: Aprilia Engine Map, different mappings available to change the character of the engine and the way it delivers power.

The list of accessories also includes AQS - Aprilia Quick Shift - the electronic gearbox that allows for rapid shifting without closing the throttle or using the clutch.

The top fairing houses the LED headlight unit that features perimeter DRL positioned around the two main lights, a light style that makes the Tuono 660 unmistakable in any lighting conditions. The turn indicators are built into the two DRL profiles, making the front section even more compact.

The lighting system has a few unique features to guarantee excellent safety: thanks to the presence of a twilight sensor, the low beam lights are activated automatically, while the self-cancelling indicators flash in case of emergency braking. With the six-axis inertial platform, available as an optional accessory, the "bending lights" feature is activated: the pair of auxiliary lights in the parabolas light up the inside of the turn, increasing visibility when cornering.

The Aprilia Tuono 660 has five Riding Modes allowing you to select three road settings and two for when you venture onto a track, which I am sure you will want to do, owning such a suitable bike.

Commute, for daily riding;

Dynamic, for sporty riding on the road;

Individual, that lets you fully personalise the electronic controls.

Race settings are,

Challenge, suitable for track sessions where a rider exploits the full potential of Tuono 660 and Time Attack, a logic that allows more expert riders to personalise electronic set-up fully.

Electronic settings management is facilitated by the intuitive, four-button control on the left-hand block and the quick management commands of the cruise control and traction control.

Each Riding Mode allows you to choose your riding needs and automatically obtain the best settings for Traction Control, Wheelie Control, engine brake, ABS and the other managed parameters.

The colour TFT digital instrument cluster boasts exceptional display options. The two screens available for selection, Road or Track (both with automatic night or day backlighting, thanks to the presence of a twilight sensor), correspond with two represented indices.

An Acid Gold colour scheme, already popular on the RS 660, is available now, along with two other versions. Iridium Grey combines a new and brilliant grey colour with red, part of Aprilia's racing heritage, and Concept Black and is dominated by black, which has also been part of Aprilia's racing history for some time now, broken up by multiple accents in bright red.

I genuinely believe the Aprilia Tuono 660 makes the perfect machine for an A2 licence holder as you have the looks, size and handling of

an Italian middleweight superbike with manageable power output to allow the development of riding skills building confidence. When restricted to 47 Hp, You won't have the sharp acceleration that could get you into difficulty or scare you, and even when you derestrict it once you pass and gain your A1 licence, you will find the power delivery smooth and manageable.

I loved my time on the Aprilia Tuono 660, getting my knee down when I managed to get a rare rain-free day. If you are looking for a great, stylish middleweight machine, get to Dearden motorcycles in Hythe, where they have a few bikes left at reduced prices, meaning the 660 is an even better buy.
