Timex Watches are pleased to announce the release of the Q Timex 1972 Reissue. It was the Q Timex 1972 that spearheaded the brand's range of quartz timepieces, later to become one of the most beloved collections in the world.

This archival quartz watch delivers boldness from every angle, boasting a gold-tone tonneau case profile with all-around polished finishing. You'll also find Timex's usual attention to detail, with dimensional floating hour markers that hover above the striking-red dial. Plus, a period-perfect domed acrylic crystal on top and a coin-slot battery hatch underneath.

Q Timex Collection

More than 165 years ago, Timex Watches revolutionised the timekeeping industry by using brass gearing and modern assembly techniques, making well-built home clocks accessible to more than just the wealthy. When the pocket watch was moved to the wrist early in the 20th century, Timex focussed on joining traditional craftsmanship with leading technology – and making solid, durable watches available to all.

Then came the quartz crisis of the early 1970s, and with the advent of accurate and affordable quartz watch production, the mechanical watch industry was in jeopardy. Traditional watchmakers like Timex had to adapt or risk fading into the history books. This is where the story of the Q series began. The 1970s saw Timex launch their first quartz watches, with one iconic design after another, aptly called the Q Timex Collection. Quartz watchmaking proved to be more than just a way forward – it fulfilled the promise made by Timex to deliver accurate, reliable and affordable wristwatches while staying true to their heritage.

The watches were stylish for the era, but as the wildly popular recent reissues have proven, the originals had ageless qualities that would see their appeal span decades. This year, Timex celebrates 50 years of quartz, and on its 50th anniversary, they celebrate the quartz watch that started it all with the release of the Q Timex 1972 Reissue

Today, the Q Timex Watches recall a period of upheaval in the watchmaking industry. Through the years, watches bearing the Q Timex symbol have always represented the best of emerging technology and fresh design – qualities linking the originals to their modern editions today as we move into the future, one tick at a time. Each watch embodies the bold spirit of an era – an evolution that changed everything.

The Q Timex 1972 Reissue is available at Timex.co.uk, £155.
