The Marvellous MV Agusta F3RC
When the opportunity to ride an MV Agusta motorcycle comes you grab it, regardless of the season or weather. That’s how I found myself riding up to Bury St Edmunds at the end of November, with zero temperatures on the mercury.
Despite the freezing conditions, I can tell you I had a blast, literally. I collected the bike from the lovely people at Krazy Horse in Bury St Edmunds and headed from there towards the Suffolk coast.
The journey involved cross country riding on B roads, which on an early November morning are not the best for riding let alone assessing a superbike like the F3. But it did actually give me the chance to familiarise myself with the bike and its handling. Sue at Krazy Horse had talked me through the TC, Traction Control settings and suggested a high number to enable lots of TC. Very prudent advice as the roads were slick and greasy, made worse by mud and muck from tractors and farm vehicles. The B roads were very twisty so I really tested the MV’s handling which did not disappoint. It performed superbly and I felt completely safe so much so that I could put the power on coming out of the bends.
The F3’s riding position was surprisingly comfortable for a pure sports bike and the seat comfortable. No numb bum even after a solid hour and fifteen minutes covering some fifty miles to where I wanted to film.
My back did not hurt neither did my wrists. I had perfect vision looking over the race fairing which would not provide much weather protection but comes into its own on the track, and yes pushing it rapidly along the roads. I was having fun and smiling to myself as the weather was crisp but luckily dry and clear. Not a better day for riding, well yes there could be in the south of France in July but hey I had to take my opportunity to ride the bike I had been longing to review. Now France, that would make a review if anyone from MV is reading this? Please loan me a bike for a month…..
Power as you would expect is immense with 148 hp 108 kW andf a top speed of 150mph 240km/h. MV have given you a comprehensive Traction Control system to enable you to dial up or down the amount of input you want according to conditions and environment. On the track you would want little TC input but on wet, greasy roads you would have a lot of TC set.
I did get a couple of chances to lower the TC setting and open up the F3RC on a closed road and wow, happy days. I thought I had captured some great footage of me winding up the throttle but sadly the camera that i thought was recording packed up. It must have been the freezing temperature. I got the bike over the ton comfortably and it becomes apparent that this machine is built for racing. It is light, super agile and feels at ease going fast. As a rider you become one with it. I don’t go into all the intricasies of specfications and wheel sizes etc, i just say it how it is and riding the F3RC is awesome. You will not be disappointed if you owned one.
