Fabulous Fiesta

There is nothing better than a Fiesta in the sun. Sadly for the all new Fiesta launch we didn’t have the sun, but we did have a dozen fabulous Fiestas to test drive. I did and had a lot of fun.

I arrived at Ford’s Academy in Daventry and saw a rainbow line up of all the new Fiesta variants. Pastel green to the popular black.

I was invited to attend the launch by Charlotte Ward from Ford UK PR team, so many thanks to her for a lovely day. Even in the rain.

Ford has launched the all new Fiesta and it is fabulous. Fiestas first appeared in 1976 and have sold 4.5 million cars since then. Ford thinks a lot of the Fiesta and rightly so, when it has been the UK best seller every year for eight years.

The company continues to improve and modernise the Fiesta and the 2018 all new model shows this in spades. High tech and high specs, come as standard and enhance the driving experience.

The range starts with the core Zetec and Style options, and will be expanded by the ST and Vignale later this year.

I drove two different variants. The 1 litre Zetech Titanium 100 ps manual, and the same engine with power shift auto box. I was very impressed with both.

For small engined cars their performance was good and I could easily get to motorway speeds quickly and smoothly. They are never going to be lightning quick away from the lights but these are not designed for that, and the buyers of these will not be the type of person who wants that acceleration. I found the manual box slick and gear changes positive. The auto was also very good and I enjoyed the choice of paddle shift when in drive and sport, so you can take control if you prefer to push the driving along.

As mentioned the new Fiestas come with lots of tech. All engine choices come with start stop function, which can be switched off if you should feel the need. Ford have made the all new Fiesta among the most technologically advanced in the small car class. 15 features are specified. Pedestrian Detection system is one of the safety features, where sensors scan up to 130 metres ahead of the vehicle, helping to prevent collisions at night.

Active park assist is offered on the Fiesta for the first time. The models also have speed warning indication, lane detection and gear change indication.

These technologies really are a plus and do increase safety and enjoyment, which is what you look for when buying a car.

Above shows the eight inch floating touchscreen infomation and entertainment control system. It is used like a tablet, with pincj and swipe capability.

The information screen turns in to a reversing display when reverse gear is applied. Very clear and very helpful, especially in tight parking environments.

The new range are 70mm longer, 13mm wider and 20mm lower. This provides more room for driver and passengers and better ride and road holding.

B&O sound systems are available on the Zetech range with B&O PLAY. Crystal clear audio played through speakers throughout the car. USB connection is provided and Bluetooth.

All in all the new Fiesta is fabulous and certainly enhances the past models, which I am sure will continue to make it the best seller in the small car range. I would be very happy to own one, with prices for the style starting at £12,715 and Zetech £14,215. Running costs are low and economy os excellent.

There are twelve colour choices, my favourite being Bohai Bay mint. So much so I had to buy a T shirt the same colour. Now Ford please loan me a car to match.

You wont be disappointed if you purchase any of the options amungst the range, and will have a fabulous time.
