Fable Whisky’s Chapter Seven. The Piper.

Fable Whisky is produced in Speyside and distilled at the Glen Elgin distillery, founded in 1898. Chapter Seven is the story of The Piper and part of the unique way the brand produces and sells its whiskies by telling fables connected to each whisky chapter.

The Glen Elgin distillery creates a single malt with a beautiful fruity and floral style.

Casks of Glen Elgin are an absolute pleasure to nose and taste.

The piper is a great character to represent Glen Elgin; it matches the varied notes of Glen Elgin – be those light and floral or deep, and at times herbal.

Glen Elgin excels in American oak, where the soft vanilla and hints of spice enhance the distillery's character.

Expect a sweet beginning and a long and rewarding finish from this exceptional Speyside distillery.

The Glen Elgin Distillery's buildings are modest due to a lack of funding when it was first built in 1898. In 1901, the distillery was acquired at auction by the Glen Elgin-Glenlivet Distillery Company for £4,000. Production began once more, though it only lasted from 1904 to 1905. It was not until Scottish Malt Distillers acquired Glen Elgin in 1930 that its fate improved.

Fable has created Whiskies based on chapters telling stories, and the collection has eleven chapters.

The Ghost Piper of Clanyard Bay

The first fable instalment delves into the legend of ‘The Ghost Piper of Clanyard Bay’, a story hailing from the South West Coast of Scotland, close to Stranraer. Fable collaborated with artist Hugo Cuellar to create an enchanted world, from which label illustrations highlighting characters and scenes form a set of eleven Chapters.

Chapter Seven

Nose

Toasted brioche and vanilla sponge cake promise a sweet and moreish single malt. Freshly cut and grass-toasted oak offer more subtle complexities.

Palate

Buttery and oily popcorn with sweet brown sugar and almond. With water added, fresh green notes of pear and cardamom rise to the fore and then make way to a waxy and prickly peppery note of anise.

Finish

Elegant and refined. Crisp apple and then into sweet malt and salted caramel popcorn. Faint spiciness develops and drifts off to provide a medium-long finish.

Extract from the story,

“The cave was left untouched until, one day as the earth was thawing, an old piper appeared with a dog. The rough hound was as grey as the beard of its owner. The piper was surely the finest in the land (as no doubt was his father before him).

His bagpipes were crudely made and yet, from this instrument, came a merry sound that even stopped the crows from cawing. No one had heard such cheerful tunes.”
