DTX360 Kymco's 125 Adventure Scooter takes on urban streets and wilderness trails.
In a world where oil prices are soaring, and congestion is spiralling, we have to look at alternatives to driving cars around urban environments. Kymco is continually developing its range of Scooters to give people the opportunity to escape the congestion. The latest model is the DTX360 125 Adventure Scooter which I rode on and off-road.
The latest trend for Scooters is the Cross Over Adventure style, and Kymco has launched two DTX models, the 125 cc, which I rode and the larger 360 cc. Both share the same angled looks, which look great and modern.
The DTX 360 125 has a 121 cc engine producing 13 bhp, which isn't going to get you into trouble even if you wind her wide open, but it is enough to get you over 60 mph, so you can happily cruise along on motorways.
Just over a three-gallon tank gives you around 200 miles of riding, which is impressive. You can commute long distances, or even pack some bags on it and do a tour.
The seat is comfortable, as is the riding position, which is like sitting in a chair. The wide handlebars allow significant manoeuvring and no strain on your wrists.
Regarding manoeuvring, the DTX 360 125 is light and agile so you can go anywhere. Filtering is easy, and you can get tight lean angles to get you through roundabouts like a GP rider. You always feel in control.
The 30-inch seat height allows you to easily plant both feet on the ground if the surface conditions get sketchy, be this on the road or off. The tyres enable off-road riding but only on dry trails and grass; if you tried to tackle mud or wet grass, you would struggle due to the lack of grip. But this is not a scrambler; It's a scooter that can take you on great adventures and away from the streets.
The suspension is stiff, with a relatively broad front-wheel equating to a lot of juddering on roads, but it soaks up the bumps off-road well. The wide tyres grip well on the road, and you always feel secure taking corners and roundabouts.
The DTX 360 125 has a convenient keyless system that adds class to the scooter. The technology on the bike is good, and you can link it to your smartphone app. You get great storage under the seat, which can take two helmets, loads of shopping or perhaps your sports kit. The modern digital display is excellent with precise information of all essential systems, fuel, speed, range and more.
The DTX 360 125 cc has a bigger sister, the 320 cc offering the same practicality, agility, and increased power performance, allowing for more adventures. £5499
The scooter market is vast now as every manufacturer looks to secure new riders with the hope they will stay brand loyal. The growth of sales has pushed development, and competition between companies benefits the buyers who get lots of technology, safety systems and fuel-efficient machines. The Kymco DTX 360 125 has many models to compete against, and I have will mention a few.
Honda X-Adv 350 is a direct competitor to the Kymco, although it is a larger capacity at 320 cc.
New for 2022, Suzuki has produced the Avenis 125 which will be a strong contender in this market.
Another scooter that competes with the DTX 360 125 is Yamaha's BWS 125; it is the same sort of price and has a great look with twin headlights and tall fairing.
I would have a DTX 360 125 as a second machine for all those quick trips to the shops, leisure centre etc, and then some fun on the trails on weekends. It is a fantastic machine which is enjoyable to ride and capable. You'll love it, too, so jump on one for a test ride.
