The BMW R 1300 GS is a game-changing adventure bike that is sure to thrill in even the most demanding riders. The German company has taken the BMW R 1300 GS to the next level by making it more powerful, smaller, and lighter. Major changes have been made such as replacing the tubular steel chassis with a compact pressed steel shell that uses the engine as a stressed member. The subframe is cast aluminium, and the Telelever front end and Paralever shaft drive rear are lighter and have improved flex properties.
The BMW R 1300 GS has a narrower profile with a smaller, thinner fuel tank, and it's a doddle to ride. The bike's new features, such as the sports display, textured finish on the rocker cover and fuel tank, and a retractable centre stand tab, make it an excellent adventure touring bike. The new manually adjustable screen is quieter at speed, which is a significant advantage for an adventure bike. You can opt for an electric screen version, and the operation, heated grips control, and options like heated seats, radar cruise, and electronic suspension can now all be controlled by a single switch without diving into the menus on the dash.
The BMW R 1300 GS has a new chassis, and the ride experience is even more exhilarating than its predecessor. It has excellent stability and ride quality, and it's more agile, accurate and roadster-like than before.
The suspension can still bounce around on and off the throttle, but it provides excellent support through corners, particularly with its new Metzeler Tourance Next 2 dual-purpose tyres. Moreover, the new front calipers and larger diameter discs provide robust and progressive braking, backed up with a powerful rear.
BMW's optional semi-active suspension now has a new spring change system that allows you to switch between soft or hard springs in different riding modes.
The electronic suspension now features a ride height device that drops the seat height by 30mm, making it more accessible for smaller riders.
The BMW R 1300 GS is not just any adventure bike; it's a true masterpiece. With a taller rally seat, radiator grill guard, and spoked wheels, it's an absolute head-turner. You can also opt for features such as the Dynamic Package, Enduro Pack, and adaptive headlights.
The new 1300cc air/liquid-cooled motor is BMW's most powerful production twin and still uses a boxer twin engine.
Despite its size, it's an impressive bike off-road and the new changes make it easier to handle. However, it may not be suitable for less experienced riders. Although there is no Adventure version yet, I am confident it's only a matter of time before BMW reveals it.
